Samsung is widely expected to introduce the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 this year, marking roughly two years since the debut of the original Galaxy Watch Ultra. The smartwatch is likely to be unveiled alongside Samsung’s next-generation foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8.
Recent rumors have revealed several possible upgrades for the upcoming wearable.
Earlier reports suggested that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 may use the newly announced Snapdragon Wear Elite processor.
If accurate, this would set the Ultra model apart from the Galaxy Watch9, which is expected to continue using Samsung’s Exynos W1000 chip, previously seen in the Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch7.
A new rumor now claims that Samsung may equip the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 with 5G connectivity.
The current Galaxy Watch Ultra supports up to 4G connectivity, so adding 5G would represent a notable upgrade for the next model.
With the addition of 5G support, Samsung would follow a similar path to Apple. Apple introduced 5G connectivity on the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which launched in September last year.
If the reports prove accurate, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could bring improved connectivity along with other hardware upgrades when it launches later this year.
