The federal government has decided to reduce the number of entry points to Islamabad from 109 to 25 as part of efforts to strengthen security in the capital.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to review law and order and civic management in the city. During the meeting, officials discussed measures to improve security arrangements and provide better civic facilities to residents.
Mohsin Naqvi directed authorities to ensure strict monitoring at checkpoints and entry points to make the security system more effective. He said checkpoints should not exist merely in name and that their practical effectiveness must be visible.
The interior minister also emphasised that maintaining law and order in the federal capital must be ensured at all costs. He directed authorities to make the Red Zone fully operational in practical terms and instructed officials to develop an effective strategy in this regard.
Naqvi also ordered steps to improve civic services in the capital and said assistant commissioners would be responsible for ensuring cleanliness and removing encroachments in their respective areas.
He further directed that unnecessary items placed along major roads in the city should be removed immediately. The meeting was attended by the chief commissioner, inspector general of Islamabad police, deputy commissioner, DIGs, SSPs, SPs and assistant commissioners.
