A violent dispute over a marriage between two individuals from different communities has left more than 100 homes reduced to ashes in Jacobabad district, Sindh, forcing hundreds of families to shelter under the open sky in one of the most shocking incidents of communal violence in recent memory.<\/p>\n

The crisis erupted after Sidra, a woman from the Channa community, married Muhammad Hassan Buriro from the Buriro community in a Hyderabad court on May 4. The couple insists the marriage was consensual and legal, but the bride’s father has rejected their union, claiming his daughter is only 14 years old and alleging kidnapping of another younger daughter.<\/p>\n

In a video appeal circulated widely, the couple pleaded with authorities for protection, stating they married of their own free will and are now facing relentless threats and accusations. The bride firmly denied being underage, insisting she is 20 years old and made her decision independently.<\/p>\n

What followed was a terrifying escalation. Approximately 400 armed men, allegedly led by tribal figures including Saddam Buriro and Ahmed Ali Channa, descended upon a village inhabited by the Buriro community. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as attackers opened indiscriminate fire and systematically set homes ablaze. Residents said the intensity of the assault left them powerless to resist or save their belongings.<\/p>\n

Footage from the scene shows flames engulfing entire neighborhoods while armed men move through the destruction. Families who once had roofs over their heads now face an uncertain future, their life savings and possessions turned to ash in a matter of hours.<\/p>\n

Malhar Buriro, the groom’s father, expressed anguish over the collective punishment inflicted on his community. He questioned why innocent villagers were targeted for a personal dispute, emphasizing that many had no connection to the marriage controversy.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, representatives from the Channa community have denied involvement in the arson, claiming instead that a minor was abducted and vowing to seek justice through legal channels. The bride’s father has maintained his allegations, stating that despite filing complaints, his daughters remain missing.<\/p>\n

Police have registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against 32 suspects and arrested five individuals so far. Senior Superintendent of Police Faizan Ali confirmed that raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.<\/p>\n

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken serious notice of the incident, calling the destruction of over 100 homes an “inhuman and intolerable act.” He has directed the Larkana commissioner to provide immediate relief to displaced families and ordered a thorough investigation to identify those responsible for ordering the attack.<\/p>\n

“No one can be allowed to play with the lives and property of innocent people,” the chief minister warned, promising that all perpetrators will face justice.<\/p>\n
