Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha addressed the flashpoint moment that sparked debate during the second ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka, saying sportsmanship should matter even when something is technically allowed under the rules.

The incident took place late in Pakistan’s innings at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday. In the 39th over, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivered a flatter ball that was pushed back toward the bowler by Mohammad Rizwan. The ball then turned and rolled toward Salman Ali Agha, who was standing at the non-striker’s end.

As Agha tried to avoid interfering, the ball was stopped near his foot. With the ball stationary, Agha bent down to pick it up, but Miraz instead picked it up and quickly broke the stumps, catching Agha out of his crease for a run-out at the non-striker’s end.

The dismissal triggered an angry reaction from Pakistan’s camp, with Agha visibly frustrated as he walked off.

Speaking after the match, Miraz defended his decision by saying he believed Agha might have attempted a run if the throw missed the stumps or if overthrows became available.

When asked about it later at the post-match press conference, Agha said he accepted that the run-out fell within the laws, but made it clear he would not have made the same choice.

He described the situation as “heat of the moment,” adding that while he respects playing by the rules, the “spirit of cricket” should still be a priority. Agha said that if he were in Miraz’s position, he would have handled it differently, placing sportsmanship above taking advantage of a split-second opportunity.
