A devastating blast near a police vehicle in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has resulted in the martyrdom of at least seven police personnel, including a Station House Officer (SHO), as the country grapples with a surge in terrorist activities. The explosion, caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), occurred in the Bettani tribal area, leading to the immediate deaths of six officers, with one policeman succumbing to his injuries during treatment. The martyred officers have been identified as SHO Sadr Azam, Constable Shah Behram, Constables Shah Khalid, Haji Muhammad, Gul Zada, Sakhi Zada, and Constable Insaf Uddin. Condemning the incident, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the martyred police personnel and expressed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to their families. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also condemned the attack, ordering a detailed report from the provincial police chief and expressing solidarity with the families of the martyrs. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack, with the president praying for the martyred policemen and the prime minister assuring that the sacrifices made by police officers and security forces would never go in vain. The incident highlights the escalating terror incidents in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, which share a border with Afghanistan. In response to the rising terrorist activity, Pakistan launched ‘Operation Ghazab lil-Haq,’ resulting in the killing of at least 641 Afghan Taliban fighters and the destruction of numerous checkposts and military equipment. Despite these efforts, the country continues to face significant challenges in its fight against terrorism, with the recent blast in Lakki Marwat serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat.
