A devastating blast near a police vehicle in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has resulted in the martyrdom of at least seven police personnel, including a Station House Officer (SHO). The explosion, which occurred in the Bettani tribal area, has been condemned by top government officials, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, K-P Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The incident is part of a larger surge in terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has witnessed the highest number of incidents in the country. According to recent data, K-P recorded 3,811 incidents last year, followed by Balochistan with 1,557 incidents. The martyrdom of the seven police officers has been met with widespread condemnation, with leaders praising their courage and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. The government has reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country, with the Prime Minister assuring that the sacrifices made by police officers and security forces will never go in vain. The incident has also highlighted the need for increased security measures in the region, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan, where terrorist activity has been on the rise since the Taliban regained control in 2021. Pakistan has launched ‘Operation Ghazab lil-Haq’ to counter the growing threat, resulting in the killing of at least 641 Afghan Taliban fighters and the destruction of numerous terrorist camps and hideouts. As the country mourns the loss of its brave police officers, the government has vowed to continue its efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
